Your success almost always comes from understanding what your business processes need to be, configuring the system to support the to-be processes, and then having the discipline to maintain your new business processes after you go-live.
That means you need to choose best practices that fits your business and industry. Keep the solution simple because SAP needs to be the tool that you use to manage your day-to-day activities and not the beast that manages you.
